SUMMER SERIES 10
ANTHONY BOLTON, JOHN BRAMBLITT, DOROTHY CLARKE, BOB JOHNSON
JULY 31 - SEPTEMBER 4, 2010
DALLAS, Texas (June 24, 2010)--Haley-Henman Gallery is pleased to present the exhibition, Summer Series 10, a group show with Anthony Bolton, John Bramblitt, Dorothy Clarke, and Bob Johnson. The annual Summer Series exhibition at Haley-Henman features emerging local artists and is a venue to premier new artists represented by Haley-Henman. For Anthony Bolton and John Bramblitt, this will be their premier exhibit at Haley-Henman.
Anthony Bolton’s most recent series of paintings, entitled menageria DARK depict surreal images of nature. Mr. Bolton is an emerging, self-taught artist who plays with color and content. For this series, he uses over-scaled dimensions to exaggerate our natural world. The sources of inspiration for many of Bolton’s pieces have been taken from his own personal experiences. The subjects of his paintings generally gravitate towards darker themes, yet often convey the beauty and wonder of life.
John Bramblitt presents his new series, Poetry Of The Senses, as his exploration of taste, sound and scent. His series is noted for its vibrancy of color and depth of texture by his use of mixed media techniques. Mr. Bramblitt lost his sight in 2001, however his blindness does not impede his creative capacity to express the visual qualities of his other senses. John developed painting techniques that allowed him to use his sense of touch to take the place of what the eyes do for other artists. His methods equate texture to color. He uses thick paint to draw raised lines that can be felt and used as a guide across the canvas. John uses color to express many things including emotion, sound, fragrance, and flavor. He says that the world is more colorful now than when he was sighted. For him, the color of something does not rely on how something looks merely when light reflects off of it, but instead, it reflects a deeper emotional quality of whatever is being noticed. His work has received much recognition including the ‘Most Inspirational Video of 2008′ from YouTube and three Presidential Service Awards for his innovative art workshops.
Dorothy Clarke participated in last year’s Summer Series 09 with two series of exceptional prints. For this exhibition, Ms. Clarke shows her versatility and virtuosity in various media by presenting Signs of the Road, a series of new oil paintings depicting signs she has encountered on roads less travelled. This body of work is her story of her fascination of road trips. Her desire to travel eagerly leads her to a road with a spirit of adventure and discovery. Each road contains its own ambiance that affect her deeply, reminding her of when life was simpler. Her paintings are vintage signs that she has come across on one of her many adventures. Each sign tells another story of time.
Bob Johnson presents his fifth exhibition in a series called Ecological Connections. He paints with a digital medium and brings out the quality of brush strokes and lush layers of color. He captures images from our natural world and places them into a fantasy matrix. His works are single editions on canvas. Mr. Johnson is passionate about his work, there is no hidden agenda, cause, or political statement that he is trying to convey. His motivation is to create beautiful and inspiring images that move people in one way or the other. Mr. Johnson works without a planned result. He enjoys the process of experimental iterations with as little structure as possible. He feels his most successful images are the ones that are planned the least.
